Tributes to Confederation
Manager-National Celebrations, External Relations and Visitor Experience Directorate, Parks Canada:
“At the request of Parks Canada, Odyssey Showcase created and presented a very special and successful tribute on the occasion of Sir John A. Macdonald’s bicentennial birthday in Memorial Hall in Kingston in January 2015.
This presentation included actors portraying Sir John A. Macdonald, Sir Georges Etienne Cartier, Lord Stanley, Sir John Franklin, Queen Victoria, Fenian soldiers and First World War soldiers and others.
Parks Canada funded the entire production and we were delighted with the results.
The production was bilingual, educational, original, entertaining and perfect for the target audience of new Canadians and their families and Canadian dignitaries.
In addition to engaging Odyssey Showcase to undertake this important event, I have attended their show Canada Roars; A Musical Taste of Our Canadian Heritage, Notre patrimoine canadien, une odyssée musicale at the Canadian Museum of History and a special November 11th tribute they created and performed on Remembrance Day at the National Gallery (sponsored in part by a grant from the Government of Canada’s Commemorate Canada Fund).
I think it fair to say that everyone in attendance was educated, entertained and moved by these professional, high quality presentations.
I am accordingly pleased to write this letter attesting to the organization’s stellar track record in producing shows about Canadian history. Their research, wardrobes, regalia, impersonations, scripts, music, lyrics, dances and overall harmonious integration of important elements of Canadian history into theatrical representations is remarkable.
My colleagues and I are grateful for the opportunity to experience their presentations and for the excellent work they performed for Parks Canada and accordingly commend this organization as a worthy participant in the upcoming 2017 celebrations with experience in portraying Canadian history.”
