Algonquin Commons Theatre / The Drum and The Shofar
The Drum and The Shofar video, currently in production, focuses on two sacred instruments from distinct cultural traditions: the Indigenous drum and the Jewish shofar (ram’s horn).
Odyssey Showcase will premiere the video as part of its upcoming live presentation for student audiences:
When the Spirit Moves You / Quand l’esprit vous anime / Apich nondawag tewehigan Manidò nigandinig kidji nimiyàn – Universal Beats
November 13, 2025, at the Algonquin Commons Theatre.
This seventy-five minute bilingual presentation will portray the significance of instruments and sounds as ways to channel human spirituality and provide insights into parallel approaches of diverse cultural groups.
The production will include Indigenous drums and dancers, the shofar, a medley of Canadian music, tap and Jazz, spoken word poetry, and more!
The show will be followed by a 30-minute Q and A featuring representatives from a number of cultural groups.
In alignment with our ongoing commitment to accessibility and education, the video will be made available online, accompanied by educator resources and interactive learning activities to enhance classroom and community engagement.
