J\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9 Deborah Davis et son \u00e9quipe d\u2019Odyssey Showcase en 2014, et j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 imm\u00e9diatement intrigu\u00e9 et inspir\u00e9. J\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9poustoufl\u00e9 par tant de personnes diverses r\u00e9unies pour faire vivre notre histoire, notre pass\u00e9. Cela m\u2019a montr\u00e9 la passion de nos jeunes et la force de nos a\u00een\u00e9s. On se sentait comme une communaut\u00e9 de conteurs. Le conte original autour du feu du soir. \u00ab\u00a0Depuis 14 ans, c\u2019est avec plaisir que je participe aux productions d\u2019Odyssey Showcase. Je sens de tout c\u0153ur que leurs productions sont des ic\u00f4nes d\u2019une valeur \u00e9ducative et de divertissement inestimable.<\/p>

Je m\u2019appelle Darin Kyle. Je suis le premier champion canadien de claquettes au monde. Je suis un conf\u00e9rencier principal et un militant local de \u00ab\u00a0d\u00e9veloppement communautaire\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 Ottawa. Mes racines dans cette ville sont profondes. Et j\u2019ai un profond respect pour la fa\u00e7on dont Deborah Davis, son \u00e9quipe et sa distribution ont eu un impact sur la vie des \u00e9tudiants. \u00c0 propos de Peter : Peter a plus de trente ans d\u2019exp\u00e9rience en tant que musicien, batteur et chef d\u2019orchestre. Il a \u00e9galement particip\u00e9 \u00e0 neuf tourn\u00e9es de spectacles des Forces canadiennes, en Bosnie, en Afghanistan et \u00e0 Duba\u00ef. Au c\u0153ur de cette performance, nous voyons et ressentons l\u2019\u00e2me de la diaspora africaine. Nous entendons l\u2019agonie du passage du milieu et l\u2019espoir d\u2019un peuple nouvellement lib\u00e9r\u00e9 de l\u2019esclavage. Alors que le paysage et le si\u00e8cle se transforment et que l\u2019Am\u00e9rique commence \u00e0 fl\u00e9chir, nous sommes t\u00e9moins des influences des classiques europ\u00e9ens et de la modernit\u00e9 sur la pr\u00e9sentation du jazz dans le courant principal de la culture. La pr\u00e9sentation \u00ab\u00a0Gift\u00a0\u00bb rend hommage aux grands interpr\u00e8tes que sont Bessie Smith, Louis \u00ab\u00a0Satchmo\u00a0\u00bb Armstrong, Fats Waller et bien d\u2019autres.<\/p>

Tous les interpr\u00e8tes et musiciens de \u00ab\u00a0Gift\u00a0\u00bb sont des artisans et des amateurs d\u00e9vou\u00e9s des arts et leur professionnalisme est apparent dans ce spectacle.<\/p>

Il est tr\u00e8s clair que Deborah Davis et Segue to Jazz ont un gagnant dans \u00ab\u00a0The Gift of Jazz\u00a0\u00bb, car elle continue de le partager avec la communaut\u00e9 d\u2019Ottawa et ses environs. \u00c0 propos de Michael : Michael a eu la chance de vivre une exp\u00e9rience unique en vivant dans une communaut\u00e9 o\u00f9 Sarah Vaughn, Al Hibler, Thad Jones, Nat Adderly et une foule de musiciens c\u00e9l\u00e8bres se trouvaient \u00e0 deux pas de chez lui. N\u00e9 \u00e0 Detroit, au Michigan, et \u00e9lev\u00e9 \u00e0 Teaneck, au New Jersey, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 immerg\u00e9 dans une grande partie du paysage musical changeant des 50 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es.
En d\u00e9couvrant J\u00e9sus et la musique Gospel, Michael a chant\u00e9 dans des ch\u0153urs d\u2019\u00e9glises de D\u00e9troit \u00e0 Ottawa. En tant que chanteur solo, Michael a fait des tourn\u00e9es avec et pour son p\u00e8re, feu Sir Roland Hanna, aux \u00c9tats-Unis et au Japon. Aimant l\u2019harmonie vocale masculine, Michael a nourri cet amour du chant avec des groupes a cappella masculins, dont le Canadian Men's Chorus de Toronto.<\/p>

Michael g\u00e8re actuellement Rahanna Music Inc. et a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 plus de 300 compositions de Sir Roland Hanna. On peut \u00e9galement le retrouver sur plusieurs CD en plus d\u2019\u00eatre interpr\u00e8te \u00e0 Ottawa et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger.<\/p>

I attended this performance and was thoroughly and totally transfixed and transformed by the talent, choreography, content and information in the most enjoyable show I have seen in many years. As an American living in Canada, I was surprised to learn how much of Canada\u2019s musical history added to and changed the world. The school children attending were enthralled and attentive and were a joy to watch as they waved their arms and sang along. I would highly recommend this show to anyone who enjoys music! I am saddened to read that the Canada Roars Spring production will not take place this year. This program on Canadian History offered students a very unique and inspiring summary of Canada\u2019s past. Telling the story with acting, dance and music instilled a sense of pride in our nation building. The content covered the grade 7 and 8 curriculum very well and motivated students to work hard in the history unit with hopes of earning the privilege of attending the production. The plays focus on how First Nations influenced our history, aligns perfectly with the new emphasis on aboriginal issues in School and Canadian Society in general.\n\nI hope that plans can be made to have the show performed in the near future. I am a teacher at Connaught Public School and I teach a group of Developmentally delayed students in a semi-integrated setting.\nWe have been extremely fortunate to have been able to participate in the Canada Roars show. This is a unique way to tell the history of Canada. It really brought history to life for my students.\nNot only did they get to see the progression of music but they also got to meet the performers who stayed in costume and in character so that they children could interact with them on a personal basis, take part in the music and dance, ask questions, experience the culture and artifacts of yesterday. The performers were kind and patient and so enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and skills.\nThis program is important as it shows students from all backgrounds the history of Canada, its music and its culture. We cannot underestimate the importance of the arts in our students life. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une tourn\u00e9e de notre vaste pays avec un regard sociologique sur nos provinces et territoires. La musique est en effet reconnue depuis longtemps par les \u00e9ducateurs comme un moyen d\u2019enseignement des plus efficaces, mais elle n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 appliqu\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019histoire \u00e0 cette \u00e9chelle...\u00a0Comme la GRC a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le crucial dans le d\u00e9veloppement du Canada, en particulier dans l\u2019expansion de l\u2019Ouest, nous sommes toujours \u00e0 la recherche de nouvelles fa\u00e7ons de promouvoir cet aspect souvent oubli\u00e9 de notre organisation. En collaboration avec Mme Davis et son \u00e9quipe, nous avons identifi\u00e9 plusieurs morceaux de musique de la GRC qui nous permettraient de promouvoir le r\u00f4le que notre institution a jou\u00e9 dans l\u2019\u00e9dification du pays. La Section historique de la GRC a fourni des images et des renseignements historiques que Mme Davis a combin\u00e9s \u00e0 de la musique d\u2019\u00e9poque. Le r\u00e9sultat a \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s \u00e9mouvant, mais une description fid\u00e8le au r\u00f4le de la GRC \u00e0 la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle... Nous avons eu l'honneur d'assister \u00e0 la production et avons \u00e9t\u00e9 imm\u00e9diatement impressionn\u00e9s par le haut calibre de tous les interpr\u00e8tes et musiciens.
